I was 13 at the time, and was just getting into social media. I was adding everyone that wanted me as a friend. I was talking to all kinds of people from everywhere across the country. One guy added me and he told me he lived in the state as me. He only ever sent half face pictures of himself. When I asked about that, he would tell me that he was ugly and didn’t want me to see. I didn’t think anything of it. Me being 13 though, I was boy crazy and wanted to meet him. We agreed to meet at a nearby park and I waited there with my younger sister and two of my close friends. We waited all day at the park. By 7, we thought it was time to go home. On our walk home, we noticed a blue van driving extremely slow behind us and stoped across the street. It was dark in the van, but I could see the guy was staring at us. We all got scared and started running. The van started following. I didn’t want to go home though, I was a weird kid and never wanted anyone to know where I lived. Which was good in this case. I grabbed my sisters hand and told my friends to follow me. We ran through a few houses yards. An old lady came out of her house hearing us running around. She started to yell at us to get out of her yard, until she saw my sister crying. She walked up to us as we stood in the middle of her back yard and we told her someone was following us. She went inside for a minute or so, and came back out with a juice box for each of us. Asked us what our names were and what happened today. I told her how we were waiting for my friend all day at the park but never showed. She was very kind and made us all feel safer. Police cars pulled up and she told us to wait there. A police officer came to the backyard and asked who we were waiting to meet up at the park. I had a few screenshots of my friend and showed him. Comes to find out, this “friend” I wanted to meet was a child predator. I’m 17 now and refuse to add anyone on Snapchat I don’t personally know.
